Extremely rare separately issued Swiss broadsheet maps and view, issued early in the American Civil War, with maps of the United States and Virginia & Maryland, and a view of Washington D.C., published in Zurich, as a supplement to the Neuen-Zurcher-Zeitung.
The map of Virginia & Maryland is extremely detailed for its size and pre-dates the creation of West Virginia.
The map of the United States is colored by slave (blue) and free (uncolored) states and territories, and shows Kansas Territory, Nebraska Territory, Indian Territory, Utah Territory, an oversized New Mexico and Washington wrapping around Oregon, with a curiously shaped Dakota Territory.
The Neuen Zürcher Zeitung (New Journal of Zurich) is a Swiss German-language daily newspaper, which has been in operation since 1780 and operated under the present name since 1821.
This is the first time we have ever seen this map and we locate no references to the map in any of the standard sources.
