Fine example of Samuel Hill's map of the West Indies, Florida and the Gulf Coast, which appeared in the rare Boston edition of Malham's Naval Gazetteer.
The present map is one of the few maps of the Caribbean published in America prior to 1800.
The map was engraved by Samuel Hill in Boston and is one of the few maps of the West Indies published in America prior to 1800.
Samuel Hill (ca. 1765-ca. 1809) was an engraver who worked in Boston, Massachusetts, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His engravings were published in the Massachusetts Magazine, Defoe's New Robinson Crusoe (1790); American Universal Geography (1796), and Cook's Three Voyages to the Pacific Ocean (1797).
