Description

Scarce and important map of California, reduced and corrected from W.M. Eddy's 1853 Official Map of California (Streeter 2761; Wheat Gold Regions 257). Eddy came to California in 1849 and became the San Francisco City Surveyor. In 1850 he made the first official survey of the city. His map of California is one of the most important of the era, reaching $325.00 at the Streeter sale in 1968. This map accompanied Reimer's Zeitschrift fur Allgemeine erkunde. It shows an improved an updated version of Eddy's map, with an inset after Ringgold & Williamson of San Francisco Bay. The map is extremely detailed, including towns, roads, mines, mountains, rivers, valleys, deserts, lakes, explorers routes, counties, Indians, forts, volcanos etc.
