Description

Fine full color example of Ambrosi's rare view of the Spanish port of Cadiz.

At the time that this view was published, around 1680, Cadiz, located on the Atlantic coast of Andalusia, was the premier base of the Armada Real, the Spanish Navy. The heavily fortified city is shown to occupy a small island, and is surrounded by a harbor bustling with innumerable naval frigates and trading vessels. The key, located beneath the view identifies the 21 points of interest.

The present work is one of a series of town views published by the Italian artist Francesco Ambrosi, printed in Bassano del Grappa, in the Venetian province of Vicenza.
