Description

Full original color example of Carl Albrecht Seutter's elegant set of tables of distances in Germany and Austria.

The composition is divided into quarters, with the upper right corner bearing a title banner that is unfolded amidst a grand scene of classical architecture.

The set of tables in the upper left, Polimetria Circuli Austriaci, includes the distances between numerous towns and cities in Austria. The table in the lower left, Polimetria Circuli Bavariaci, includes the distances between pints in Bavaria, while the remaining table, Polimetria Circuli Franconici, features the distances between town in Franconia (now northern Bavaria). The dating is not precisely known, although it was published at some point between 1756 and 1762.

This piece represents a beautiful integration of science and artistic design from the Rococo era.
