Description

Rare plan of Belgrade on the Danube River, published by Gaspar Bailleul in Paris.

The map shows the bay and fortifications of Belgrade and environs, as they existed at the end of the 17th Century, at a time when the town was constantly under siege by the rival armies of Europe and the Ottoman Empire. The roads and gates between the settled area also shown, as are the Chateau and the area occupied by the Army.

We have been unable to locate any other example of this town plan.
