Description

Striking set of views of early Chicago, published by Kurz & Allison.

Includes two larger views of Chicago, one from1830 and a second from 1853 are surrounded by smaller scenes and vignettes. The whole ceates a fantastic visual survey of the city's history before the Civil War.

Smaller views include Du Sable and his cabin, Fort Dearborn, and the fabled Sauganash Hotel where Native Americans, French-Canadian trappers and American settlers mingled for drinks, dancing and roulette.
