Description
First edition of this fine rare sea chart of the southern China Sea, extending from the Malay Peninsula and Straits of Malaca to northwestern Java, including Singapore, with the coast of Borneo in the east.
The chart includes fine coastal details, soundings and annotations with sailing directions, one of which having been correcting in manuscript.
The map is one of a group of charts advertised for sale by Wm. H. Allen & Co. in the early 1840s, in Allen's Indan Mail.
The chart is apparently quite rare, with no examples listed in AMPR in the past 30 years. OCLC lists only a single example in the National Library of Singapore, corrected to 1857.
Condition Description
Includes pencil annotations of a voyage in the region. Some soiling and a several minor repaired tears, with some minor restoration at the edges.
