Description

Striking large format map of the Panama Canal, with historical and information vignettes, drawn by Charles H. Owens.

The map also appears with the title: The Panama Canal as seen by Charles H. Owens of the Los Angeles Times Art Staff from a special Military Airplane.

Mr. Owens was the first civilian artist to fly over the Canal Zone. This bird's-eye view of the big canal, with its inserted sketches of the locks and interesting canal zone scenes is the result. An extremely detailed and absolutely fascinating bird's eye view map of the Panama Canal area, with many inset details of the workings of the canal and local sights. Clearly the accuracy of the map was deemed an important selling point as the endorsement from George W. Goethals the Consulting Engineer on the Canal suggests.
