Description
Marvelous artist's fantasy map of America, published sometime around the turn of the beginning of the 20th Century.
The map shows a projection of America which is reminiscent of the Plancius Map of the World, with fanciful scenes showing Columbus' discovery of America in 1492 and portraits of Columbus and Queen Isabella.
This has always been a personal favorite among fantasy maps. There is no real attempt to deceive with the printing process (early 20th Century?). We were very surprised to purchase this example in a larger collection of maps which were purchased in the late 19th and early 20th Century. Apparently we were not the only ones who thought it was a great curiosity.
