Detailed map of the Course of the Thames River, from Cirencester to the sea, engraved by Cooke from John Boydell's History of the River Thames.

The map provides a remarkably detailed look at the course of the Thames, along with towns, other rivers, roads, etc . The map is scarce. We were not able to locate any other examples of the complete map being offered separately for salein the past 25 years.

A History of the River Thames is an illustrated narrative of the history of the river, starting at Thames Head near Cirencester in Gloucestershire, via Oxford, Henley, Reading, London, and ending where the river enters the North Sea. The author and artist make a slow trip down the river, stopping to examine or illustrate anything and everything of interest, making excursions along all the major tributaries and finally to the sea. The world is highly prized for the engraved illustrations, which appear frequently on the market.
