Description

Scarce map of the waterfront of the early city of New Orleans, surveyed by Gilbert Joseph Pilie, and published in 1827.

The map shows the custom house, water works, Chartres Street, and the levees along the Mississippi River. At the bottom, a compass rose orients the map with north toward the upper right corner. The full title is Plan of the Front Part of the City of New Orleans Shewing (sic) the additions, alterations and improvements made on the Quay and Levees of said City together with the deposits or alluviums made by the River from the year 1818 to this date. New Orleans Novr. 15th 1827. Jh. Pilie, City Engineer.
