Description

Decorative view of London by Thomas Bowles, published in 1751.

Fascinating bird's-eye view taken from a point which today would be several hundred feet above Tower Bridge. The viewer looks up river to the east, to the right are the city churches, including St. Paul's, the Monument to the fire of London, and in the distance Westminster Abbey, `old' London Bridge is shown before the removal of the houses. Later views by Bowles and Bowles & Carver show the same view, but with the buildings removed.
