Description

Rare separately issued map of the Southern US, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, drawn largely from indigenous Mexican sources.

The map provides a detailed treatment of Mexico in the year after Garcia y Cubas' seminal map of Mexico. The detail in the US and Central America is also noteworthy.

Several editions of the map are noted in various reference works, including an 1862 edition (British Museum) and an 1866 edition (mentioned by Peterman, Orozco y Berra, and in Obras de Miguel Leon Portilla. There are no dealer or auction records for this map and there appear to be no examples in American institutional collections.
