Description

One of the earliest obtainable views to show the area of the modern City of Phoenix, Arizona.

The view shows a the encampment of a survey team with many figures, including a Native American. The view also shows a saguaro cactus, a prickly pear, agaves and mesquite trees. Drawn by A.H. Campbell, from the Reports of Explorations and Surveys, to ascertain the most practicable and economical route for a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, made under the direction of the Secretary of War, in 1853-4.
