Description
Rare map of Northern Italy and the contiguous Alpine regions of Switzerland and Austria. The map covers extends from the Alps and the Lake District in the North to the Alpenines in the South and is centered on the Po River Valley, from its sources to the Adriatic Sea, including the Gulf of Venice.
The map details are from an early period, when the Romans dominated the region, and includes ancient place names and Roman roads. A fascinating and highy detailed map and an early example of G.B. Recurti's engraving work, which appeared in a Sanson inspired historical atlas, produced under the auspices of the Padua Typographical Seminary.
