Description

Decorative map of Hawaii, published in Rome by Cassini.

Cassini's fine map of Hawaii is the first printed map is drawn from Captain James Cook's map of Hawaii, copying almost exactly the content of Cook's original map in an even larger format and showing Cook's tracks on a daily basis as he sailed through the island chain. The map incorporates a decorative vignette, showing Cook struggling with fierce Hawaiian natives, while another prepared to stab him in the back, with Cook's ship at anchor in the background. Without question, the most decorative and sought after of all Hawaiian maps and the only decorative map based upon Cook's voyage to Hawaii.
