Description
A scarce map from Handtke's 4 sheet map of the United States showing an immediately post-Gadsden purchase southwest. New Mexico Territory still covers the full region between California and Texas. Virtually all of Texas is shown, with Austin as the Capital. Southern California is shown extending north to San Antonio Bay and Owens Lake! Most of Indian Territory and much of Kansas and Colorado are also shown. The map shows early explorers routes, forts, Indian Tribes, etc, including at least 10 forts in New Mexico and a number in Texas and Indian Territory. The Channel Islands and the California Missions are shown, along with a curious San Diego mountain range near San Bernardino. Mtn passes, rivers & other features included. Very Scarce.
