Description

Fine early map of the World, reflecting the recent discoveries of Capt. James Cook in the Pacific and NW Coast. The Sandwich Islands are shown, and the NW Coast of America no longer includes the Sea of the West, although the cartography is still conjecture. Van Diemen's Land is still attached to New Holland and the shape of the continent is still inaccurate. New Zealand's is shown as two islands. No sign of the Antarctic and no explorations in the north polar regions. Decorative embellishment in the center is highly ornate. Wide clean margins. A scarce world map, with no example offered in dealer catalogues in the past 20 years.
