Rare early map of New Jersey by John Seller, being one of the earliest obtainable maps of the region after its establishment. It shows the Delaware Bay and River north to above Philadelphia, which is named along with Chefter and New Castle T. This is the first appearance of Philadelphia on a printed map, preceeding the Holme map of 1683. Southeastern Pennsylvania is called Part of Pensilvania. Inlcudes East Iarsey, West Iarsey, Dutch fort, Bethlem, Antioch, Neversink, Elizabeth T., Little Egg Harbor, Great Egg Harbor, Cape May and other early place names. An essential map for Philadelphia and New Jersey Collectors. The color appears to be old. A bit of tape residue in the margins, just touching the printed image. No examples in dealer catalogues in the past 20 years.
