Description

Decorative map of Ancient Jerusalem, showng the City with the Second Temple, Herod's Castle, and streets and markets surrounded by fortified walls. Images of Solomon's annointment and Golgotha on the Calvary are shown. The map is based on Stern's Plan of Jerusalem from 1630 and was originally issued as part of a series of 6 maps by Nicholas Visscher in 1643. The present example was issued by Joseph Moxon in 1671, with a dedication to John, Lord Bishop of Chester. All of the nomenclature and annottions within the map have been translated into English. A nice full color example, with narrow margins left and right, with a bit of fascimile work in the lower left corner. The map has been laid on early 20th Century archival paper. Overall a decorative example of this scarce 17th Century English plan of Jerusalem.
