Rare du Sauzet edition of Cloppenberg's map of the Carolinas and parts of Virginia and Georgia, wich was first issued in the Cloppenburg edition of Jansson's Atlas sive Cosmographie and later in du Sauzet's very rare Atlas Portatif. This later edition is characterized by the clean depiction of the ocean, rather than the hachured sea in the early editions. This late edition is very scarce. The map extends from St. Augustine in the south to just north of Chesepioock Sinus in the north and to the Alleghany Mountains in the west, naming a number of early towns, bays etc. A highly collectable early map of the Southeast. Burden #227. This is the first exzample of the du Sauzet edition we have ever handled.
