This is a rare separately issued map of the Gulf Coast and the Caribbean by Tardieu. The map was issued shortly after the Louisiana Purchase (1803) and the creation of the Mississippi Territory (1804). The map demonstrates the remarkably fine engraving characteristic of Tardieu's maps.

Antique map of the southern half of North America, from the Island of California to Florida, by Herman Moll, London's most famous cartographer of the early 18th Century. The map shows remarkable detail for a map of its size, including very nice detail in modern-day New Mexico and Texas, along with an interesting projection of Florida and the Gulf Coast. Several early settlements are named along the Gulf Coast and Mississippi River Basin. The relationship shown between French, English, and Spanish colonies and settlements in this region are the foundations of the troubles that will later result in the French and Indian War.

The map is a close copy of the second and third states of Duval's map, which has been re-engraved by Sigismund Hipschmann. A second edition was published in 1681. The map includes an early depiction of the Chesapeake region, the mythical Lake May above Florida, Jamestown, Cape Henry, Secot, Pomeiok, an early reference to Manhattan and New Amsterdam and an inset of Bermuda.
