Interesting map of California by Britton & Rey, prepared to show the location of Borax mines in California. The mines are noted with various codes, including mines of unknown value, borate of lime, the place where Borax was first discovered in California, the first successful mine, current mining locations, boracic acid locations and the sandy desert regions of California, where Borax may be located. Signed in facsimile by Henry Hawks. Includes a number of mining towns and communities in the southeastern part of the state which rarely appear on maps. Some minor chips and tears in the margins, a few just entereing the printed image, and 3 non-archival tape repairs on the verso. The first time we have ever seen this curious map.
