Decorative and interesting map of the US, shortly after the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the discovery of Gold in California. The map still shows the shape of the former Republic of Texas and includes a number of Indian Territories (based on Tanner) which had since been abandoned, including Mandan, Huron, Osage, Ozark and Sioux Territories. A pre-Fremont California still dominates the west, including the two Lake Timpanagos, although a badly mislocated hint of the Sierras is present. Remarkably, the Gold regins are shown, albeit tracing somewhat mythical rivers which had not yet bee corrected. Schoolcartft's Lake D'Itasca is the source of the Mississippi. The Great American Desert still appears. A marvelous, if somewhat anomolous map of the US.
