The Lindgren Brothers 1947 Pictorial Map of Jackson Hole, Wyoming
"Made on Purpose by Jolly Lindgren," this comic pictorial map is full of puns and comic vignettes related to Jackson Hole, the Grand Tetons, and environs.
The map shows routes and landmarks captioned with good-natured humor.
Editions
The first Jolly Lindgren map of Jackson Hole (A Hysterical Map of the Jackson Hole Country and Grand Teton National Park) was made in 1935. The park also appeared on A Hysterical Map of Yellowstone Park And The Jackson Hole Country.
In 1947, a new edition of the 1935 map was issued, extending slightly farther north and south. While a few of the jokes and vignettes are the same, this is an entirely different map. A third edition was issued in 1948, with the view shifted slightly east, bound by the Idaho border (eliminating the "To Victor" sign) and extending farther east of Emma Matilda Lake than the 1947 edition. There are also numerous changes to the illustrations.
The Lindgren Brothers issued a number of other silly, whimsical maps of national parks and other parts of the West.
