Rare field map of Cuba, lithographed by Julius Bien & Co. and dated 1897, published by the US Military War Department during the Spanish American War.

The map consolidates the entire geography of Cuba onto a single massive map, printed on 4 sheets and joined. Drawn by Charles Ourand, a cartographer for the Adjutant-General’s Office, this remarkable map provides an array of details including transportation networks, administrative divisions, settlements, and various other significant geographic markers. The map employs a coded system of over twenty abbreviations to denote diverse features and points of interest.

Originally published in 4 sheets in 1897, this map was intended for military use after the beginning of the Spanish American War in April 1898, and is one of the largest maps of Cuba ever published.
