Promoting French Bonds During World War I

Nice example of a Jules Abel Faivre's iconic 1918 poster for France's Liberation Loan, also known as the Fourth National Defense Loan.

The image was intended to galvanize financial support for World War I. Employing a nuanced draughtsmanship, Faivre depicted an imposing assemblage of Allied flags converging upon a subdued Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Abel Faivre Biography

Born in Lyon, Faivre trained there at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts and in Paris at the École Julian. He is perhaps most well known for his illustrations for Le Rire, L’Assiette au Beurre, and other satirical magazines and the newspaper Le Figaro.
