Description

This rare map, titled Bornholm, depicts the Danish island situated in the Baltic Sea. It was engraved by J. Luffman and published on April 1, 1801, in London. The map was included in Volume II of Luffman's Select Plans

The map outlines the island's rugged coastline and interior with remarkable precision for the time. Prominent geographic markers include Solomons Kild, Hammeren at the northern tip, and the Erdholmer Isles with Fort Christiansø to the northeast. The map is oriented with a compass rose in the upper right, ensuring navigational clarity. 

The island's towns and villages, such as Allinge, Rønne, Svanick (modern Svaneke), and Noxoe (Nexø), are clearly labeled. A noteworthy feature of this map is its emphasis on the numerous churches scattered across the island, including St. Pauls Kirch, Wester Mary, and Oster Mary, reflecting the religious and cultural significance of these sites in the early 19th century. g it a valuable artifact from the early 19th century.
