Educational Playing Cards for Roman History
This is a historical deck of 48 cards, each numbered in Roman numerals from I (Romulus) to XLVIII (Augustus). The cards present an abridged history of ancient Rome and are adorned with finely engraved portraits of significant Roman figures, based on the best available medallic sources.
The deck is accompanied by a card that provides the rules of the game (Règles du jeu). According to these rules, the game accommodates an unlimited number of players. After shuffling the deck, each player draws a card, and the player with the highest number becomes the first dealer. Play proceeds clockwise from the dealer, with the highest card in each trick winning a token or a portion of the agreed-upon stake.
To claim a token, the winning player must identify each historical figure depicted on the cards in their trick and describe a notable event or characteristic from their history. If a player fails to provide the required explanation, they forfeit their rights to the trick, which is passed to the next player.
This historical set serves as a fascinating artifact, combining entertainment with an educational exploration of Roman history.
