This educational wall map, titled Mexico, Central America & West Indies, was constructed and engraved by W. & A.K. Johnston, Limited, based in Edinburgh.
The map depicts Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and parts of the southern United States, as well as northern South America. It features a scale of 1:4,000,000 or 63 miles to an inch and highlights principal railways, steamship routes, and the heights of mountains in English feet. Capital towns are indicated by square symbols, enhancing its utility for geographical and political reference.
Of particular note is the inclusion of British Honduras, a British colony at the time (modern-day Belize), along with other colonial territories in the region. The map provides detailed territorial boundaries, including divisions within Mexico and Central America, as well as the names of principal cities, rivers, and topographical features. Insets display further details on regions such as the West Indies.
The map includes an imprint at the bottom left referencing The Geo. M. Hendry Company of Toronto, who distributed Johnston's maps in 1917.
