This lively tourist map of southern Morocco was published in Rabatby the Moroccan Tourism Office (Office Marocain du Tourisme). It is a visually engaging depiction of the southern regions of Morocco, designed to attract visitors by highlighting the area’s cultural landmarks, natural beauty, and historical significance.

The map emphasizes key cities and towns in South Morocco, including Marrakech, prominently featured at the center with an inset illustration of the Koutoubia Mosque, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Other significant locations include Agadir, a coastal hub noted for its beaches; Ouarzazate, often referred to as the gateway to the Sahara; Taroudant, known for its historic walls; and Tiznit, a center of Berber culture and traditional silver jewelry. In the east, Erfoud and Tafilalt are highlighted as entry points to the Sahara Desert and for their lush oases.

The map features natural wonders such as the Gorges du Dadès and Gorges du Todra, as well as the Plateau des Lacs, emphasizing the region’s dramatic and varied landscapes. Important routes, both paved and unpaved, are marked to guide travelers through the region’s mountains, valleys, and desert plains. The Atlas Mountains are a dominant feature of the map, with key locations such as Ifrane and Midelt shown on the edge of the range.

Cultural elements are vividly depicted, with small illustrations of traditional kasbahs, palm groves, and camel caravans scattered across the map. These visuals evoke the region’s rich Berber and Arab heritage, as well as its historic importance as a crossroads for trans-Saharan trade. The decorative border and pictorial elements, including camel riders and bustling market scenes, reinforce the romantic image of Morocco as a destination steeped in history and exotic charm.

The map also features major rivers, such as the Draa and Ziz, and coastal features like Mogador (modern-day Essaouira), a historic port city.
