Description

This map of the Isle of Man, published in The Weekly Dispatch Atlas during the mid-19th century, provides a detailed depiction of the island's geography and infrastructure. Created by Edward Weller, FRGS, the map combines cartographic precision with the aesthetic style characteristic of Victorian-era lithographic printing.

The Isle of Man's rugged terrain is rendered with shading that highlights its topographical features, including the prominent hills and peaks such as Snaefell, the highest point on the island.  The map also documents the island's human geography, with major towns such as Douglas, Peel, Ramsey, and Castletown clearly marked. These settlements are connected by an intricate network of roads, reflecting the island’s infrastructure during a period of increasing modernization and connectivity. The coastal geography is meticulously detailed, with significant bays, such as Douglas Bay and Ramsey Bay, and smaller ports labeled.
