Engraved map depicting the western portion of Asiatic Russia, extending from the Arctic Ocean to the northern borders of China. Rivers, mountain ranges, and settlements are shown, with hand-colored boundary lines marking various regions. Italian transliterations of place names are used throughout.
The decorative title cartouche in the upper right features an allegorical scene with figures in traditional dress, and a cannon being engraved, emphasizing Russia’s expanding influence in Asia. This map was engraved by Giovanni Maria Cassini, a noted Italian cartographer and engraver, and published by the Calcografia Camerale in Rome. Cassini was known for his ambitious Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale, which sought to modernize Italian cartography in the late 18th century.
