This finely engraved and detailed map of Italy, Nuova Carta dell'Italia, was executed under the direction of renowned cartographer Giovanni Antonio Rizzi-Zannoni and published by Giuseppe Molini in Florence. The map covers the entirety of Italy, including Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily, along with detailed coastal outlines of the surrounding Mediterranean regions. Topographical features such as mountain ranges, rivers, and coastal details are meticulously rendered, with cities, towns, and provinces clearly delineated.
The decorative cartouche in the lower right features allegorical figures, including a female figure representing Italy, surrounded by symbolic objects such as a globe, instruments of navigation, and cherubs, one of whom holds a wreath over the globe. Above, a seated figure holds a cross, adding a classical and religious element to the design.
Engraved by Guiseppe Guerra, the map is a stunning example of Italian cartography at the turn of the 19th century, combining artistic flourish with geographical accuracy.
