With a Folding Map of Mexico by Cumplido
A very scarce work on the Mexican military by Mexican Minister of War General Mariano Arista, with extensive tables relating to organization and extent of military forces, issued the same year as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican-American War. The work calls for reform of the army after its recent defeat by the Americans. Includes a nice folding map of Mexico lithographed by Cumplido as well as the text of the Mexican law setting forth the organization of the army.
Gen. Mariano Arista was a prominent Mexican military leader known for his service during the U.S.-Mexico War (1846-1848), particularly in early battles like Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma. As a general, Arista was tasked with defending northern Mexico but faced setbacks against U.S. forces. Before the U.S.-Mexico War, Arista had also played a significant role in Mexico’s internal conflicts, including the fight against Spanish attempts to reclaim the country in the 1820s. After his military career, Arista transitioned to politics, becoming Minister of War and later serving as President of Mexico from 1851 to 1853, a period marked by political instability and economic challenges.
Not in Tuturow's bibliography of the Mexican War.
