Old color example of Nicolae Visscher's map of Switzerland, accompanied by a rare geographical index also published by Visscher.
A second cartouche at the bottom right reads:
Illustrissimis, Potentissimis ac Florentissimis Rebus-Publicis Helvetiorum Tigurinae, Bernensi, Basiliensi, Scaphusinae Novam hanc & post omnes alias Exactissimam Helvetiae Tabulam d.d.d.
Translation:
To the most illustrious, powerful, and flourishing republics of the Swiss: Zurich, Bern, Basel, Schaffhausen, this new and most accurate map of Switzerland, after all others, is dedicated.
This dedication pays homage to the prominent Swiss republics, highlighting the map's accuracy and expressing reverence to the cities of Zurich (Tigurinae), Bern (Bernensi), Basel (Basiliensi), and Schaffhausen (Scaphusinae). The abbreviation "d.d.d." at the end stands for dedit, dicavit, dedicavit, which means "has given, dedicated, and devoted."
