Description
Interesting lithographic image of the area between New York City and Lake Ontario, illustrating the artwork on an early Powder Horn.
The artwork illustrated was typical of the style of carving of maps on Powder Horns during the period of the French & Indian War and the American Revolution.
Given the places illustrated, we surmise that this would have been a French & Indian War era powder horn, based upon the forts named and the configuration of Lake Champlain and Lake George, as well as the illustration of Indians near Fort Royal.
Condition Description
Lithograph on 19th-century wove paper. Minor toning, repair tape on reverso, separation along creases, and loss of top right corner.
