This hand-colored lithograph by Nathaniel Currier (later of Currier & Ives fame) presents a stately portrait of George Washington seated beside a column, framed by a rich blue curtain and gold tassels. The depiction highlights Washington’s calm expression and formal attire, including a black coat and ruffled shirt, conveying both his leadership and dignity. The hand rests on a document, symbolizing his pivotal role in founding the United States.

Nathaniel Currier worked out of 2 Spruce Street, corner of Nassau, in New York City from 1838-1846.
