Description

Published by the Hakluyt Society in 1862, António Galvão's (Galvano) Treaty of Discovery is rendered in its original Portuguese and English and accompanied by a preface by editor Rear Admiral C.R. Drinkwater Bethune. Bethune used Richard Hakluyt's English translation of 1601, noting differences between it and the original, which the Hakluyt Society sourced, and R.H. Major copied, from one belonging to John Carter Brown. Galvão, a father of historical geography, chronicles all discoveries from ancient times to the contemporary (1555).
