Description

Three-stone color lithographed map of Washington Territory, produced by the U.S. GLO in 1879.

The map delineates the early counties of the Washington Territory, as well as the Quinault, Yakima, and Colville Indian Reservations. A note in the reservation adjoining the Colville Reservation says "Reserved for Chief Moses and his people, and such other friendly Indians as may elect to settle here with the Consent of Chief Moses and the Secretary of the Interior. Executive Order April 19, 1879."

The map shows Surveyor General's Offices, Land Offices, subdivisions of townships, county seats, cities and towns, railroad land limits, military reservations, boundaries of counties, Indian Reservations, and completed railroads.

This map was published 10 years before Washington statehood and is one of the best GLO maps of the Territory.
