Description

This detailed map of Edenton Bay, North Carolina, was surveyed in May 1883 under the supervision of Captain James Mercur of the Corps of Engineers, with fieldwork conducted by Geo. H. Elliott. The map delineates the bay's coastline, with soundings indicated in feet and tenths. The town layout of Edenton is displayed at the top, showing streets and block divisions. The depths are carefully noted, providing an accurate representation for navigational purposes. Additional notations include a scale for depth measurement and the location of the U.S. Engineer Office in Norfolk, VA, as of December 5th, 1883.
