Yangon Under British Rule
Scarce map of Rangoon (Yangon), published by the British Twelfth Army in June 1945, one month after Yangon was liberated from the Japanese.
Yangon was under Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945 and was severely damaged during World War II. The city was retaken by the Allies in May 1945.
Yangon became the capital of the Union of Burma on January 4,1948 when the country gained independence from British rule.
