Description

Monumental Wall Map in A Remarkable Format

Excellent example of J Calvin Smith's wall map of the Eastern United States, in unusual format, with large inset "Map of North America" and smaller one of the southern part of Florida.

The North America map has the border between the United States and Mexico in pre-Gadsden configuration, and there is indication of the Gold Region in California.

The border vignettes include city views of New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, etc., pastoral scenes, and more.

Condition Description
Original hand-color. Engraved wall map, dissected on nine sheets of wove paper, mounted on linen with green silk selvage. Mounted in mammoth folio blue paper boards with onlaid title label "Carte des Etats-Unis D'Amerique."
