Description

Rare early chart of the Hawaiian Islands, published at about the same time as the official account of Cook's third voyage.

The chart shows the path of the Resolution and the Discovery when Captain Cook first visited the Sandwich Islands in January 1778 and his second visit to the islands in February 1779, where he was killed by the natives at Kealalekua Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii (Owhyee).

The chart faithfully follows the details provided in the map that accompanied the official account but does not include the inset map of Karakakoa Bay, which is included in most of the other early maps of Hawaii.

This is the third time we have ever offered the map for sale, which is much rarer than the maps that accompany the official account.
