This large, detailed map of California, compiled by A.F. Hassan in 1929 and printed in 1948, presents a thorough geographical depiction of the state.
Colonel George Ruhlen, a noted Southern California historical geographer, added manuscript tracks for notable historical expeditions and routes across California, including Jedediah Smith’s 1826-27 journey, the Butterfield Overland Mail route (1858-1861), the Old Spanish Trail, the California Road, and the Noble Road. These historical routes are traced over the base map.
