Description
This lithograph, titled Ghuzzeh (Gaza), is plate number 71 from Carol Wilhelm Meredith van de Velde's album Le pays d’Israël. The artwork is part of a collection of one hundred views depicting scenes from what was then Syria and Palestine, based on van de Velde's observations during his exploration in 1851 and 1852. The scene shows the city of Gaza from a distance, with the Mediterranean Sea in the background and a group of people and camels in the foreground. The detailed portrayal of the landscape and daily activities offers a glimpse into 19th-century life in the region. The lithograph was printed by Alfred Lemercier in Paris in 1857.
