This large folding map of Africa was published Vallardi in Milan.
The map provides a detailed depiction of the African continent, its territories, and various European colonial possessions during that period. The map uses different colors to denote the colonial possessions of European powers and includes several insets detailing the islands off the African coast, such as the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and the Mascarene Islands.
In the bottom right corner of the map is a key, labeled Possessioni e Stabilimenti (Possessions and Settlements), which categorizes colonial territories based on the controlling power. The key uses different colors for each colonial empire, assigning:
- Red for British possessions (English)
- Green for French territories (French)
- Orange for Spanish territories (Spanish),
- Light Green for Portuguese territories (Portuguese)
- Yellow for German territories (German),
- Dark Red for Italian territories (Italian),
- Brownish-Green for Ottoman possessions (Ottoman Empire).
The map includes not only continental Africa but also several inset maps of significant islands, including the Canary Islands (Isole Canarie), Cape Verde (Isole del Capo Verde), and the Mascarene Islands (Isole Mascarene), along with Saint Helena (Isola S.
