Description
A later state of a map first titled Map of Egypt, Drawn from the Latest Authorities, and intended To illustrate the Military Operations of General Buonaparte, originally published in Monthly Magazine and British Register in October 1798 British Military Library in November 1798, both published by Richard Phillips. The extended title is still partially visible. Crossed swords, two ships, and an August 1, 1798 date in Aboukir Bay indicate the Battle of the Nile, in which the British Royal Navy was victorious over Napoleon's French navy. Rossetto, where the Rosetta Stone was discovered by French troops in 1799, is labeled in large letters.
Condition Description
Flattened. Trimmed close to right border, with a small tear entering border. Minor offsetting.
