Description

Colored and Annotated To Show School Districts

This is the rare second edition of this detailed map of Sacramento County, published by County Surveyor Drury Butler, which was first published by Phinney, Cate & Marshall in 1911, at the time when C.M. Phinney was County Surveyor of Sacramento County.

The map has been significantly revised and updated, also reflecting the significant growth in the county.

The primary names which are highlighted in blue and in some cases added in blue pencil appear to all be Sacramento County School Districts, as noted on this historical list.

The pencil annotations in the margins seem to related to water districts, bridges and water related matters.

Rarity

OCLC locates 1 example of the 1911 edition (Library of Congress) and 2 examples of the 1923 edition (California Historical Society and UC Davis).  We note that Stanford also holds an example of the 1911 edition (illustrated above).

Condition Description
Linen-backed, with wooden rollers. Extensive pencil annotations in several colors. Some soiling at the bottom.
